The Dragons put one hand on the Women’s First Round trophy on Sunday after a great win over Westland United. With both teams having won their opening games the previous week, a second win was always going to be invaluable. Westland did get the better start, with Ngawai Tahi opening the scoring and the score remained 1-0 until halftime. After the turnaround, the Dragons finally found their scoring form, getting three in a row. Hetty Jenkins, the Dragons player of the day, scored her second goal of the season, along with last year’s top scorer, Amelia How, who scored two. Tahi, Westland’s player of the day, did score a late consolation and now leads the top scorer’s leaderboard, but Westland ran out of time before they could find an equaliser.
